It is my distinct pleasure to work with buyers and sellers of real estate in the mountains of North Georgia, Southeastern Tennessee. I also look forward to working with those looking for Blue Ridge real estate.
Having worked for thrity-five years in the education field as a counselor with six of those years spent here in Blue Ridge, I have had the opportunity to watch as our communities began to make subtle changes. I have been watching as folks from Metro Atlanta, Florida, and other locations learned of the value of investing in vacation and second homes in this area.
In 2003 the chance of a lifetime presented itself when my son and I purchased the real estate company, RE/MAX Creekside Realty of Blue Ridge, Inc. At the time we had eight agents working at the office but grew to more than fifty agents working with Blue Ridge real estate alone. We now do business as RE/MAX Around The Mountains.
The remainder of this profile will give you some backgroud. It might be of interest to some of you.
I grew up in Macon, Georgia, which is located in the central part of the state. Much of my extended family still lives in and around Macon.
After graduating from high school, I attended a small Baptist junior college, Norman College, in south Georgia. I transferred to Troy University in Troy, Alabama, where I majored in English with plans to teach in high school.
My first teaching job was at Bethlehem High School in Bonifay, Florida. I was there for a total of one year, but it was while I was there that I married my college sweetheart, Sylvia Lanor Payne, of Montgomery, Alabama.
Uncle Sam and the U. S. Army interrupted my chosen career for a three-year period with my final year spent in Vietnam. It was while I was in Vietnam that our daughter, Ashley Lanor, was born. She was four months old before I saw her.
My next teaching job was at Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama. I taught English for four years, and while there I earned my Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. During the last of the four years, our son, Forrest Lanier, was born.
While in Opelika, I served as the faculty advisor to the high school Key Club which is sponsored by Kiwanis International. This led to a thirty-year invovement on many levels including Kiwanis Zone Chairman to the Alabama District of Key Club International. I joined Kiwanis while in Opelika and have continued my membership for over thirty-five years serving in many offices including president of the Kiwanis Club of Andalusia, of Greenville, and, more recently, of Blue Ridge.
After my preparation to work in the counseling field, we moved to Andalusia, Alabama, where I served as the counselor at Andalusia High School for fifteen years leaving to take a position on the school superintendent's staff in Greenville, Alabama, for the Butler County School System. I was there for nine years retiring after twenty-eight total years in Alabama education.
I then moved to Blue Ridge to again work in the field of counseling, my first love. I worked for six years as counselor at Fannin County Middle School.
Being the proud Grandfather that I am, let me tell you about my grandchildren.
Ashley and Chip have two girls - Courtney Lanor Tamberino and Katherine Coleman Tamberino. They now live here in Blue Ridge. Forrest and Debbi live here also and have three boys - Emerson Lanier Hamm and Garrison Conley Hamm and Anderson Kelly Hamm. If we should meet, I'll be glad to show you some pictures.
